I absolutely love that story of Garcia and somebody else (Cutler?) driving down the coast (to Monterey?) to where Dylan had a place on the ocean. You nailed it!
A few extra details: they pulled up in the driveway and because his house had so many windows on all sides they were able to sit in the car for while and watch none other than Bob Dylan "rattle round" inside, with the Pacific Ocean as backdrop.
Once down to business they produce this carefully chosen and mixed collection of songs on a cassette tape and Sir Bob whips out this $29.99 shitbox of a Circuit City combo AM/FM radio /cassette player to listen to the thing on. They were stunned.
I love stories that reduce my heroes to mere mortals. They are unfailingly funny as hell.

Was it his house in Malibu ? If so it makes it even more funny . The fact that Garcia , normally a very nice guy get so frustrated and angry , that he is thinking of punching Dylan .
I am a big fan of Bob, but I have never heard anyone I know who has met him, not use the words "odd", "strange ", or "weird" .
